Notes Regarding Use

TO FIRST-TIME USERS

[Persons Who May Sign out Materials]
  • Persons residing, studying or working in Toyokawa City, or
  • Persons residing, studying or working in the Higashi-Mikawa area (Toyohashi City/Gamagōri City/Shinshiro City/Tahara City or Kita-Shitara County) or in Nukata County, Okazaki City.
A user’s card is required to borrow books. After filling out the necessary items on the “User’s Card Application,” please submit it to the General Service Counter. Have a form of ID verifying your name and address (driver’s license, insurance card, student ID, etc.) ready. You will then be issued a user’s card.

TO PERSONS WITH ACCESS DIFFICULTIES

We ask that persons (residing in Toyokawa City) who wish to borrow library materials but have physical impairments that prevent them from readily accessing the library to please consult with us by telephone or other means.

PERMISSIBLE SIGN-OUT QUANTITIES AND PERIOD FOR LIBRARY MATERIALS

Books: Up to 10 books may be borrowed at once. Must be returned within a 15-day period (includes the day signed out). Audio-visual materials (DVDs, videos, CDs, cassettes): Up to 2 audio-visual materials may be borrowed at once. Must be returned within a 15-day period (includes the day signed out).

HOW TO BORROW BOOKS

Please present the books or other materials you wish to borrow along with your user’s card to the General Service Counter. Up to 10 books may be borrowed at once. Up to 2 audio-visual materials (DVDs, videos, CDs, cassettes) may be borrowed separately of books. All books/materials must be returned within a 15-day period (includes the day signed out).

HOW TO RETURN BOOKS

Your user’s card is not required upon returning books and other materials. Return the books and audio-visual materials (DVDs, videos, CDs, cassettes) that you borrowed to the Return Window located at the General Service Counter. Users will be contacted by postcard, telephone or other means should materials borrowed become overdue. We ask that users please abide by return due dates.

HOW TO LOOK FOR BOOKS (CONDUCT A SEARCH)

Should you be unable to locate a book, magazine or other materials that you wish to read, please ask the library staff for assistance. Users may also search for books at the library on their own using the PC terminals (OPAC) located in the library’s Search Corner. These terminals will provide you information on the status of library materials, including whether or not they are held at the library or are signed out.

USING LIBRARY MATERIALS ON THE PREMISES

Please use library materials marked “In-library use only” or “For reference only,” as well as newspapers, CD-ROMs, and the latest issues of magazines, on the premises only.

MISPLACEMENT OR DEFACEMENT OF OR DAMAGE TO LIBRARY MATERIALS

Please ensure to notify the library staff should library materials be displaced, defaced or damaged. Library materials represent a valuable asset shared by all local citizens. Please handle them with care. Users who have misplaced, defaced or damaged library materials may be asked to provide compensation for the materials in question.

PROTECTION OF PRIVACY

For the sake of protecting the confidentiality of users, sign-out records for materials are deleted upon the return of said materials.

REFERENCE SERVICES

Reference services involve the use of library assets to provide users with materials and information they require in their studies, investigations, or research. Please feel free to let the Consultation Desk know if you are unable to locate the materials you need or if you are unsure of how to look for them. Our staff will assist you. Reference service requests can be made via the “User Page.” A reference FAQ (Frequently-Asked Questions) may also be perused using an Internet-based search.

REQUEST SERVICES

We recommend putting in a request when a book that you want to read is not held at the library. Requests may be made by filling out the “Reservation/Request Application Form” and submitting it to the Sign-Out Window at the General Service Counter. A request for 1 book can be made per person. As soon as your book becomes available, we will contact you. However, please note that if you do not come to the library within 1 week after you are contacted, your request will be cancelled. Requests are handled through the purchase of the book in question or through borrowing from another library. As such, please be aware that there are times when your request cannot be accommodated. Additionally, the library may not accommodate requests for materials that require the purchase of the following: magazines, newspapers, audio-visual materials, comic books, CD-ROMs, book series, high-priced books, etc. Lastly, please note that books borrowed from other libraries may carry restrictions with regards to their usage.

BOOK RESERVATION SERVICES

Books held at the library may be reserved. Reservations may be made by filling out the “Reservation/Request Application Form” and submitting it to the Sign-Out Window at the General Service Counter. Five books may be reserved per person. As soon as your book becomes available, we will contact you. However, please note that if you do not come to the library within 1 week after you are contacted, your reservation will be cancelled. Users will be asked to wait upon reserving a book that is already signed out. As soon as the book is returned, you will be contacted. Magazines, newspapers, audio-visual materials, etc. cannot be reserved.

INTERNET RESERVATION SERVICES

Books may also be reserved over the Internet. Books reserved over the Internet may be picked up at the following locations: Chuo Library/Otowa Library/Mito Library/Ichinomiya Library/Kozakai Library Toyokawa Community Center/Goyu Community Center/Ushikubo Community Center/Hachinan Community Center/ Gamagōri City Library You must be issued a password in order to use this service. Passwords may be requested via the “Top Page,” through the use mobile phones, or similar means. Additionally, passwords are also issued at the following locations. RESERVATION SERVICES AVAILABLE AT LIBRARIES AND COMMUNITY CENTERS

Books may be reserved via the user terminals (OPAC) located at the Chuo, Otowa, Mito, Ichinomiya, and Kozakai Libraries or any of the 4 community centers in Toyokawa City (Toyokawa/Goyu/Ushikubo/Hachinan). Books reserved will be delivered to the designated library or community center for pickup. You must be issued a password in order to use this service. Please contact the library for details.

COPY SERVICES

Copies of library materials (separate charge applies) can be made provided that the copies are for personal use. (Please note that some copyright law-based restrictions may apply.)

COPY REQUESTS

Should you require copies of materials please fill out the designated “Copy Request Form” and submit it to the General Service Counter.

COPY FEES

Use of the coin-operated copy machines on the premises costs 10 yen for 1 monochrome copy. Color copies cost 50 yen for copy sizes up to B4 and 80 yen for A3-sized copies. We ask that users please conduct copying themselves. Unauthorized use of the copy machines is prohibited.
